This quilt was the collaborative effort of three different quilters. The strip quilt was made by Norma Jean, the back blocks by Pat West and the Sunflower border fabric donated by Patty W.

I but it all together and it is in a box now for shipping out to Melissa Lange the sister of Granite Mountain Hotshot Travis Carter!

Paying It Forward

Have you ever as a quilter noticed that the more we quilt, the more scraps of fabric and batting we tend to have?

I have a rule that would make some quilters cringe...I toss selvedges in the trash. I have tried over and over again to make those work but can't so I get rid of them and sadly, I do NOT feel guilty about it.

I have boxes for 1"-4" squares and rectangles, a pile of strips for strip piecing and more. These for the most part are keepers, but I have also managed to give an entire pillowcase of scraps away.

My biggest guilt trip is what to do with they great pieces of batting I always seem to have extra of?  It is to narrow to make baby quilt with and to little to put pieces together.

I decided to contact my friend Melinda over at Melinda's Fabric Fancies and see if she would like some of this and living on a very fixed income, she said yes.

I am a quilter and once in awhile I may make a craft, but not very often, so I always have bits and pieces left over from projects.

So, if you would like to have some of these bits and pieces, let me know and send my your address and I will send you some when I get more.

In the meantime, until I am healed enough to really get out in this wet, slippery weather, I will stay warm, dry and prayerfully on two feet making more scraps!

Russia? Really?

Just curious why someone in Moscow would be looking into this blog?  I supposed it could be a quilter, however by the views they have taken on my site, I am thinking it more than likely a spammer or bot!

If you track your visitors as I do, just by location, I am wondering if any of you have experienced this?

Down To The Last 7 Granite Mountain Hotshot Quilts

We are down to the last 7 quilts needing to be made.

Yes, I am aware of the holidays coming around the corner quite quickly and I am aware I am going to have surgery on my right foot tomorrow (my sewing pedal foot), but things need to get completed!

So, I am down now to begging!  I am begging you quilters if you have NOT stepped forward and joined this amazing project, if you have any UFO's or even completed quilts needing a home, let me know!

In the beginning I did not think this was doable, but you all stepped up and showed me how generous you are and we got them done.

We truly need some quilters that have NOT stepped up yet, to give a break to those who made 2, 3, 5 or more quilts so they can rest!

Please 7 is completely doable!

Amazing Quilt

I know I probably shouldn't say this, but I think this quilt is going to go on the faves list for the Granite Mountain crew.

I love the colors and I love the fact that all those signatures belong to firefighters and it has hanging loops for hanging up.

Everyone is so amazingly talented and I am so blessed to have you all step up to help!

This week I received a letter from a complete stranger who said she doesn't quilt but wants to help.  I was so humbled, I cried.

Another blog friend sent me a box that arrived yesterday full of quilting fabrics and patterns and I was amazed by the generosity to help keep this project up and running.

 

 

Autumn Scarecrow

I know that most of you who follow this are amazing quilters and crafters, but I did want you to know I am selling this little guy in my Zibbet/Etsy shop to help support Layers of Hope - Quilting 911.

He was made by me in 2008 and tucked away and forgotten about until a few days ago when I discovered a box of quilts and holiday decorations I have made over the past 5 years.

He is 35" Wide by 41.5" long and has a polyester batting so he is a bit stuffed so to speak!

I also have lots of batting and fabric bits I hate to toss away and if you use these types of things, please contact me, I would box them up and send them to you for the cost of postage!
