From Whence They Came

From Mina in Texas

From Mina in Texas

These came in from Mina in Texas during the H2H quilt charity drive. They will be on their way back to Texas next week for a 911 dispatcher and her family who lost their home in the recent floods.

I cannot think of a more fitting set of quilts to send and I know they will be blessed.

Our continued prayers go to everyone in Texas at this time for their safety and the safety of their loved ones.

Help Support Layers of Hope

Front..Top Card Can Be Changed Out

Holding a few Christmas Cards

Back with tabs

I am selling these card holders in my Etsy shop for $20 each and they will come with a metal hanger with wooden dowel attached.

This particular one is for Christmas, but I can make them for a birthday celebration (just slip the honoree's photo in the top), Valentines day (great gift for a teacher), how about for a student to hang in their locker at school or their room?

All someone needs to do is contact me via email and we will go over the details.

All proceeds after costs will 100% go to support Layers of Hope - Quilting 911.

Don't Fear Mailing to Canada, Words of Advice

Yesterday, the two quilts I was sending to Canada were shipped out and surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but here is a word of advice if you are sending your quilts to Canada.

1- Do NOT ship in a priority mail package, it really costs alot! I shipped mine in the smallest box I could find that they would fit in.
Cost? Under $20 to ship to British Columbia from Washington state. **Funny, there was a time, when I could have just driven them to BC**

2- Have your package weighed at the post office prior to filling out the customs form. Oh yes, there is a customs form to complete and if your package weighs 4 pounds or less use, the smaller form.
**I didn't know that, so I completed the larger one and had to completely rewrite it.**
REMEMBER, press hard, there are 3 or 4 copies!

3- Have a sense of humor about you and try to go during a not to busy time of the day. I went around 10:00 in the morning, when I got there no one was there. Completed my form, got in line with several other packages and people coming behind me were cranky due to the time it took for USPS employee to complete the Canada package.  I just smiled! When I walked out, I did thank those who waited patiently in line!

4- No need to put extra insurance on it, USPS covers up to $50.

5- When mailing to Canada or any other country, I prefer a sturdy cardboard box over a padded envelope.

Pictures Worth a Measuring Tape...

In response to a question asked by Myra on what size quilts we need, I am posting a few of the various sizes we have received in the past.

Many of these are around 2' x 2' square, some are 64" inches square, some are twin sized and some are larger like the one from Susie.

I recommend you think of a large man over 6' tall and how large you would make a lap quilt or comfort quilt for that person.

I hope that helps!

Direct Delivery in Person To My Doorstep

From Susie in South Carolina
You simply cannot imagine my amazing surprise when my dog began barking up a storm at the window a few moments ago. I asked who was there and got the most shocking response from the other side.

'My name is Susie, I am from South Carolina and I have a quilt to deliver to you.' Susie has been working on this amazingly large as in I think bigger than King, quilt and knew she was coming to Washington and discovered how close we are to the exit off the freeway and made a special delivery so we can bless others!

I don't even know what to say. I have had people that live close tell me they were coming, but this just blew me out of the water and I feel so amazingly blessed and I know whomever this quilt goes to will feel the same way!

Quilts in and quilts out...

3 For Placer County

From our regular contributor Lynn, so beautiful
I always feel so blessed when we reach out and help others with these beautiful quilts.  What is even more refreshing is when someone calls me to say thank you and in the last two weeks, I have received 2 such calls. Very humbling for me.

The top three quilts were a direct send for Placer County 911 professionals who worked a tragic incident in their county and I can't think of a more wonderful thanks, than a quilt they can wrap themselves up in when chilled or needed some comfort.

The bottom quilt comes from Lynn Ray who has made an amazing commitment to Layers of Hope - Quilting 911 to send us new quilts throughout the year as her life allows. Her work is amazing and always just blows me away.

Thank you all for your love for others!
